  • Initial Outreach
  • Community Education (see below)
  • Coalition Building
  • Public Campaign
  • Accountability

Community Education

Goal: Promote the campaign publicly and initiate dialog about threats to the Constitution and how they affect people in your community. This local education is key to building your coalition. (See step #3.)

1. Connect public campaign with local stories of abuse (Outreach Committee)

In letters to the editor, opinion editorials, local campaign literature, press releases, public events, and all the local campaign messaging, tell stories of abuses that have occurred in your city, town, or state to explain how national policies are already directly affecting community members.
  • Online Database: The Human Rights Abuse Database (HRAD) <COMING IN JUNE 2008> HRAD is a free online database where journalists, civil liberties activists, and others can find stories on innocent victims in the US government's "war on terror." Beginning in June 2008, HRAD will allow searches based on geographic location of the incident, nationality of the victim, and the government agencies involved in the abuses.
  • Flier: HRAD Outreach Get involved by contributing stories to this open-source project and sharing this resource with allies.
  • Guide: Writing effective Letters to the Editor

2. Contribute material to BORDC’s PCC Video Project

Once the project is done this summer, you can distribute the link to the video on local list-serves and screen it at local meetings to gain members.
  • Guide: Uploading your submission to the BORDC Video Project

3. Hold a public educational forum on the Constitution

Use the forum to build interest in your campaign, add new members, educate your community, and encourage local debate.

4. Coordinate with BORDC to spread word of your local successes via media

  • National media and publicity to promote campaign: When you get in touch with BORDC to tell us about your local campaign, we will connect news of your effort with other local campaigns and relay these stories to the national media to help build the campaign.

5. Distribute information on abuses to local businesses and the general public

  • Booklets for general audience and business audience <COMING SOON>
