Step-by-Step Organizer Toolkit for the People's Campaign for the Constitution
Running an Independence Day signature ad in your local paper
To place an ad in your local newspaper, follow these basic steps:
- Contact your newspaper's ad department to find rates for a full-page or half-page ad on July 4, 2008.
- Determine how much money you need to raise and how many signatures you want to get and the relevant deadlines.
- Find out if a local organization (perhaps one you already belong to) will agree to handle the funds for the ad. Many people prefer to write a check to an organization rather than to an individual.
- If no existing organization will handle the checks, incorporate your group with your state government, get a tax ID number, and find a bank that offers the best deal, for example, a free checking account.
- Assign one or more persons to collect names and money from people and organizations and to alphabetize the names for the ad.
- Begin collecting signatures and pledges. BORDC will provide you with camera ready art work for your ad in June.
- Download the Declaration (PDF) to make fliers or posters.
