Protesting Torture Officials' Local Appearances

Government officials responsible for torture policies are often invited to speak at events around the country. If one visits your community, protesting their appearance can offer a great opportunity to gain publicity for your local efforts to pass a torture accountability ordinance while raising awareness of the need for torture accountability more broadly.

In November 2009, Condoleeza Rice spoke at a synagogue in St. Louis Park, MN, amid numerous protests. The experiences and resources of organizers at Tackling Torture at the Top provide an excellent model for similar protests in your area.
